Like a record, baby
The spirit of the 1985 hit single "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" by Dead or Alive was thriving at Figment this year, thanks in large part to the Homespun Merry-Go-Round, an interactive, moving art project gracing the entrance of the event. Boasting an impressive four rotations per minute, the Merry-Go-Round also wins this year's Figment award for highest density of monkeys in a single art project, with an astounding nine monkeys. The artist Al Gori counted the monkeys in front of Wondefuse News reporters to confirm this record event. The artist explained that while the current Merry-Go-Round was built in 2004, it was based on an earlier design dating to 1987. While the artist did not explicitly credit Dead or Alive as inspiration for the piece, the timeline is suggestive enough for the reader to draw their own conclusions.
